AUTHOR: Heather McGhee
PLOT:Gran always told Becky that her heart was bigger than her brain, sucking away the oxygen from her common sense node. Now at the age of twenty-nine, Becky O'Shea has little reason to stay at home. With her grandmother gone from this world, she finds herself fulfilling a promise to that dear old woman and traveling to Protection, Kansas. But if Gran knew that the Chief of Police in that small, nosy town could make her toenails tingle, then would Becky still be here?
Nick Harris has more on his plate than he wants. Policing a small town isn't so bad, if the bickering old couples and bored teenagers would leave him alone. Then Becky O'Shea, an angelic beauty with an impish smile, walks into his station...and he hasn't had a normal, boring day since.
MY WORD: This is a short, funny, entertaining little novel. It's an easy read if you are looking for some fun time. Once again the characters are brilliant, outstanding on their particular way and so endering. Especially Becky, I just can't imagine there's such a woman in the world: so talkative, too honest, overly good, but yet so intelligent. She should be a detective; actually I'd love a Becky Detective Novel, pretty please!
I liked how this story blend love with mystery and a little of town life, managing in little pages to make a whole town alive. But even though it was fun, I do think the intrigue was too short lived, we just reached the end too fast, with little climax. It had the ingredients to be so much more... just didn't reach the depth of it. Still, I enjoyed the read.
